Meet The Class of 2023

Our Senior Spotlight campaign honors Bennett Day School’s first graduating class – a group of earnest and courageous students who took a chance on a high school that didn’t even exist yet.

Throughout their time at Bennett, these students proved time and time again that young people are innately capable, curious, and competent, especially when they feel seen and heard at school.

Senior Spotlight: Abigail

Throughout her time at Bennett, Abigail has truly made her mark. She will be graduating with an impressive collection of awards, scholarships, and experiences, reflecting her dedication to academics, community, and leadership. In her freshman year, Abigail earned third place in the national Civic Action Project Multimedia Contest with a project on how gentrification affected thrift store prices in her community. She created a detailed presentation, including a thesis, research, and solutions, and even wrote letters to local officials to highlight the issue. Abigail was awarded the Ewing-Jones Scholarship for two consecutive summers, allowing her to take classes at the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Institution. This scholarship is awarded to only one student from Chicago each year. As a sophomore, she received the HFS Three Pillars Award, recognizing her academic excellence and community involvement. This award included a special luncheon with HFS board members to discuss opportunities and growth. In her junior year, Abigail led…

Senior Spotlight: Alexandra

Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School? I chose to go to Bennett Day because I wanted to go somewhere I was allowed to voice my opinions on things I wanted to learn about. I wanted to learn about topics that interested me and were related to things I am passionate about. After my shadow day, I knew I would feel confident in the Bennett community. What are your plans after you graduate? I will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign majoring in Architecture. I hope to become an architect that focuses on human-focused designs. (Alexandra recently took home 1st place in the Chicago Architecture Center’s Newhouse Architecture + Design Competition – Large Division. This incredible achievement marks her third win in the competition throughout her high school career!) What’s your favorite project-based learning (PBL) memory? One of my favorite PBL projects is the creation of a cookbook with a peer, featuring…

Bennett Day School student, Leslie.

Senior Spotlight: Leslie

Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School? I wanted something different. I knew I needed a small environment for me to open up and come out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been a shy introvert and after coming to Bennett, I found my voice and am now capable of presenting myself and standing in front of people. What are your plans after you graduate? I will be attending the University of Michigan (my dream school) where I’ll be pursuing sports management and aim to receive a dual degree in Business Administration as well. I love sports, soccer to be specific, and I really want to pursue a future where I can combine this passion with my financial and business literacy skills. I hope to one day work with my favorite soccer team, FC Barcelona, in their Club Management or Finance departments to eventually become their Treasurer. I have also received various…
