Senior Spotlight: Alexandra
Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School?
I chose to go to Bennett Day because I wanted to go somewhere I was allowed to voice my opinions on things I wanted to learn about. I wanted to learn about topics that interested me and were related to things I am passionate about. After my shadow day, I knew I would feel confident in the Bennett community.
What are your plans after you graduate?
I will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign majoring in Architecture. I hope to become an architect that focuses on human-focused designs.
(Alexandra recently took home 1st place in the Chicago Architecture Center’s Newhouse Architecture + Design Competition – Large Division. This incredible achievement marks her third win in the competition throughout her high school career!)
What’s your favorite project-based learning (PBL) memory?
One of my favorite PBL projects is the creation of a cookbook with a peer, featuring recipes from around the world. We divided the recipes by continents, with each of us contributing 41 recipes for a total of 82 recipes. This project was meaningful to us because it shed light on food deficiencies in the US. Our goal was to share this cookbook with our community in hopes of combating food insecurities.
What advice would you give rising seniors?
My advice is to maintain a positive mindset. No matter the challenges you face, approach everything with a positive mindset rather than focusing on the negatives.
What are you excited for after Bennett?
I am excited to meet new people and broaden my horizons. In my time at Bennett, I have learned how to create new connections and I am thrilled for what the future holds for me.
