Senior Spotlight: Leon

Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School?

After GCE closed, I was looking for a new school and was drawn to Bennett because of its focus on project-based learning and student-driven education. The transition was a lot smoother because Bennett’s approach felt familiar, and I liked that I could continue working on real-world projects instead of just traditional coursework. I was also really drawn to the students, the community isn’t something you can find somewhere else. They welcomed me with open arms, and even though I was an outsider, they never showed that to me.

What are your plans after you graduate?

College, babyyy!!! I am planning to study political science at the University of Kentucky. I’m so excited for everything I’ll get to experience—new people, new opportunities, and all the things I’ll see and do along the way. I can’t wait to dive into this next chapter and see what’s in store!

What’s your favorite project-based learning (PBL) memory?

The Space Colony Project was my favorite PBL project because I got to design the governance board for our colony. I had to think through how leadership would work, how decisions would be made, and what systems would keep everything running smoothly. It was a cool mix of politics, problem-solving, and creativity, and it really made me think about how societies function (or don’t). Plus, debating different ideas with my group made the whole experience even better.

What advice would you give rising seniors?

Take your time to enjoy the senior year experience, but also stay focused. I swear to you, time goes by so fast. Keep an eye on your goals, whether that’s college, work, or anything else. The little things, like building good relationships with teachers, staying organized, and balancing your social life with responsibilities, can make a huge difference when things get busy.

What are you excited for after Bennett?

I’m excited to move on to college and really challenge myself in new ways. I’m looking forward to deepening my knowledge, forming connections, and exploring opportunities that will help me grow.

It’s about setting a strong foundation for the future and making sure every choice I make aligns with my goals, whether that’s in law, public service, or something I discover along the way. It’s a big transition, but I’m ready for it.
