Senior Spotlight: Efuru
What are your plans after you graduate?
I plan to study astronomy and biophysics at The University of Texas at Austin.
How do you feel Bennett has prepared you for what comes next?
I believe that Bennett has prepared me for college in many ways, but one that stands out is the way my time here has helped grow my confidence in professional speaking and presenting. I am no longer hesitant to step out of my comfort zone and put myself in uncomfortable scenarios, as I know that all it will do is help me grow more as a student and person.

Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School?
I chose to attend Bennett because of its unique approach to learning and the environment it cultivates. Bennett’s PBL (Project-Based Learning) classes were a new experience to me, and once I shadowed, I was certain I was meant to be here. It is a genuine environment where students can be themselves in a multitude of ways, and the teachers do everything to support that further.
What’s your favorite project-based learning (PBL) memory?
My favorite PBL project is DEFINITELY our Space PBL, which took place in Trimester 2 of my junior year. Our two grades were mixed into two teams for the Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, and during preparation, we traveled to the Kennedy Space Center! As someone who has always been interested in a career in space science and space travel, this was another incredible experience that further solidified my post-high school plans. Regionals led to me being one of four students selected (Class of ’25 alums Brosnan and Evan, and current senior Anna) to compete in the International Space Settlement Design Competition this past summer!
Tell us about your internship experience(s) at Bennett.
I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to do two internships in my time at Bennett. In my junior year, I interned with Cures Within Reach, where I supported efforts to advance research on repurposing existing treatments to improve patient outcomes and expand access to affordable healthcare. My senior year, I worked closely with Mrs. Roskin, the Director of Middle and Upper School, assisting with faculty initiatives, yearbook production, and broader school operations—an experience that closely complemented my role as Student Government President.

What advice would you give rising seniors?
My biggest advice would be to take risks! Do things that make you nervous, and don’t be afraid to be bad at something the first time you do it. You only experience high school once, and each new opportunity you take is a stepping stone to becoming the best version of yourself.
