Chicago Summer Series: Eclectic Attractions in South Loop

Fall is around the corner but we want to make sure you get in your fill of summer fun while there is still time! For this “Chicago Summer Series,” we will be diving into the dynamic South Loop. Due to its recent residential and commercial development boom, the South Loop has really made a name for itself among the assorted Chicago neighborhoods. While it’s known for being home to tourist favorites like Museum Campus and Soldier Field, the South Loop has many other must-sees for families.

Kids Science Labs

In this new age of technology, STEM exploration is more important than ever. Offering camps, classes and special events, Kids Science Labs nurtures and inspires STEM-curious kids aged 4-14. This hands-on program allows children to experiment and make discoveries while also building creativity and problem-solving skills under the leadership of passionate instructors.

Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens

Honoring the contributions that prominent Chicago women have made to the city, this park offers a wholesome community space among the busy urban landscape. It houses many events throughout the year, including speciality camps, activities for early childhood learners, movies in the park, yoga, concerts and family fitness activities.

Activity: Check out the Chicago Symphonic Winds in the park on Sunday, August 28! This free event will feature a children’s music fest where kids can dance, sing and meet animals.

Glessner House Museum

Designed by famed American architect, Henry Hobson Richardson, the Glessner House Museum has served as one of the most notable architectural landmarks in American history. It was completed in 1887 and inspired the work of other famous architects such as Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Activity: Take note from the museum’s curated tour for students and ask your kid how they think each room would have been used in the 19th century.

Harold Washington Library

With a newly-remodeled children’s space, the Harold Washington Library offers customized learning experiences for kids, educational materials and events. As the largest public library in the world, it offers many resources and facilities open to the public, such as events featuring notable authors, music practice rooms and access to over 1.2 million library materials.
