Second Grade Teacher

Lower School

Shay Phee

Shay will be entering her seventeenth year of teaching and her eleventh year at Bennett Day, where she has taught in grades First through Third (Second grade is her sweet spot). Shay’s love and passion for social-emotional learning have always been at the forefront of everything she does, both in and outside of the classroom. Working in a progressive and collaborative school environment has enabled her to develop strong relationships with her students, instilling in them a confidence that fosters lifelong learning. This approach encourages students to become comfortable with taking risks, making mistakes, and embracing challenges. One of Shay’s biggest accomplishments within the classroom was being recognized with the 2012 Symetra Hero in the Classroom Award for Outstanding Leadership and Instructional Skills, presented in association with the Chicago Bears. Additionally, Shay has served as a Cohort Lead, Growth and Renewal Mentor, and facilitated Peace Circles to support her fellow teachers. Shay graduated from National-Louis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Psychology. In her spare time, Shay loves thrifting, interior design, drawing, and spending time with her seven year old daughter, husband, and two pups.
