Michael Hurley Headshot 2025 WP

Michael enjoys thinking about thinking. Throughout a decade of teaching and coaching middle and high school students, he remains fascinated on the underlying processes of problem solving.

Michael grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and remains a proud White Sox fan. He studied mathematics and played soccer at Grinnell College. After four years of exit 182 in Iowa, he moved to the beach and taught 6th grade math and coached high school soccer and baseball at Norfolk Academy, while earning his M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Virginia. However, the midwest gravitational pull was strong and Michael returned to Chicagoland teaching 5th-8th grade math and coaching high school soccer at Latin, as well as serving as the Middle School Maths Specialist and Middle School Department Chair. On Wednesday evenings you can find Michael still playing soccer with all of his siblings!

Michael is thrilled to join the Bennett Day community as a Middle School advisor, member of the Math Department, and a believer in the mission that leading with curiosity develops lifelong learners.
