Sharon Holmes

Born in Chicago but raised in rural Alabama, Sharon prides herself on being a good mix of street-wise and down-home country. She has been teaching in Chicago since 2000 on the West and South sides, and has been involved in teaching since she was an undergraduate at the University of West Alabama (UWA). There, she tutored in the TRIO program—created to increase the college’s retention of first-generation and minority students (of which she was both). Seeing the success of her students gave her a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that convinced her she was meant to be an educator. After earning her Bachelor’s and Master of Arts at UWA, she moved back to Chicago. Sharon is a lifelong learner—constantly honing and perfecting her skills. Right now, she is teaching herself how to make furniture out of pallets. One last thing, ROLL TIDE!
